This is a second take on what was already a very modern release from a very high-profile development team, and as such, the polish on display is considerable. And it must be said, I've been pleasantly surprised by what I've found.īy far the most notable feature about Pokemon Ultra Sun is its presentation. As such, and in opposition to Brittany's much more experienced impressions of Ultra Sun and Moon, I dove into Ultra Sun with only the barest hint of what I was getting into. And though one year isn't much time in the grand scheme of things, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon promise a few specific changes to plot, features, and available creatures that not only make them an interesting purchase for those who played and enjoyed the original titles, but also an especially attractive option for those who haven't yet jumped in on the Sun and Moon action.Īs someone who missed the initial buzz surrounding Pokemon's earliest releases, I'm in a unique position when it comes to reviewing Ultra Sun - while I'm more than familiar with the overall gameplay recipe, I don't know much about Pokemon lore, largely thanks to my inexperience with earlier generations of the game and only the briefest overview of the series' ever-expanding catalog of the different pocket monsters featured so far. I still think that SuMo is worth playing through at least once, but if you only have the option to get one game, get a gen 6 game (XY or ORAS).Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon have descended upon players, providing a fresh take on all of the Alola region action that 3DS owners first sampled when the original Sun and Moon titles released in November of last year. TL DR I know this seemed like a rant, and it kinda is but I'm just sharing my opinion on it. I'm not sure if it was boredom from the lack of content (compare to previous games) or exhaustion from the hand holding, but I know it's one of those two, possibly both at the same time. 3 days later, I just stopped playing completely. I didn't want to end up feeling the same way while playing SuMo so I actually waited for our 3-week winter break to start playing it.

ORAS made me wish I had more time to play games but I couldn't because of college. I played ORAS before the release of SuMo. They took away too much and replaced them with things that just doesn't click as well. Unfortunately, unlike BotW, they didn't hit the nail on the head with this one IMO.

I think that they tried to do with SuMo what they did with Zelda BotW: change the formula to bring a fresh new take on the franchise. Then rinse and repeat for all other Islands (there are only four main islands IIRC). Ferry dock > First town > Route 1 > Mini town > Route 2 > Cave/Forest > Route 3 > First town. All the Islands were laid out in a very linear fashion. It felt like everything is spoon-fed to you and all things that made the games challenging in the past were made too easy.

It doesn't have the same sense of discovery, there are too many cut scenes and dialogues, too much hand holding, and there's barely any exploration at all. Call me a traditionalist but SuMo is probably the worst Pokemon game I've ever played. I started with Crystal, then Red, then gen 3 to the current gen consecutively. I have been playing Pokemon since 1999 (born in 1996). SuMo honestly just felt like an over-glorified tutorial IMO. So which one would you recommend that is the most enjoyable and you got the most gameplay out of the 3?Įdit~ Thank you everyone for your replies but I've come to my decision :) I'm going to get Pokémon ORAS then later on in the future I'll get SuMo :) thanks for the help I had a blast with soul silver and now I don't know where to start now, Anyone have any recommendations or opinions on any of these games and which is the best to choose for a newish Comer? I've been watching some gameplay of the games too but I'm still stuck (I think the coolest thing about sun and moon is that you can brush and clean and take are of your Pokémon lol)and I don't want a game that's "easiest" for newcomers I want a Pokémon game that's worth my money just something nice that I won't regret they all cost the same about 40 dollars so I just want to enjoy one of these games if I'm gonna spend 40 on one of them. I can't decide weather to get X/Y ORAS or Sun and Moon? I was just going to settle for the newest one but I've heard the others are good I just want as much gameplay as possible and overall a fun Pokémon game. I'm not relatively new to the Pokémon franchise but I don't believe I have much experience, the last and only Pokémon game I've had was soul silver for the ds and I want to get back into the Pokémon games after I saw the new sun and moon but I'm caught up between a couple others.
